Ali Cecil

Social Studies Teacher

Ali Cecil has a Bachelors degree in History from Southern Utah University. She has over ten years of experience working as a mentor and shift lead in residential treatment. Ali was the art teacher at Kolob Canyon High School for one and a half years, in 2018-2020 where she created a classroom culture of encouragement, practice, and learning from mistakes. She spent six months tutoring students with IEP and 504 plans at Red Rock Canyon School in 2008-2009 where she learned how to adjust for different learning abilities. She spent four months as the long term social science substitute teacher at Kolob Canyon High School and Moonridge Academy in 2016. During that time she applied creative classroom management tactics to help students stay on task and engaged in lessons. Her social science philosophy is centered around context rather than trivia. The “why’s” of history are more important than memorizing facts. She also believes that helping students learn how to analyze historical events will help them learn skills that will help them to better succeed in their other classes as well.

In her free time, she loves spending time with her boyfriend and their two dogs, watercolor painting, paddle boarding, doing yoga, hiking, and gardening both indoors and outdoors.
