At Moonridge Academy, we believe that the best way to help young teens reach their highest potential and greatest mental health is to make the journey fun! We provide adventure experiences every Wednesday, with activities like outdoor adventures, service projects, and school field trips. Students are also involved in 3-day adventure trips each month except for November and December. Our therapists have seen great breakthroughs in therapy when students are actively engaged in new experiences.

Moonridge Academy provides Adventure Therapy, which is a fun and exciting way to help teens reach a greater level of mental health and recovery. Our program is designed to help teens explore new things and build mastery of their emotional intelligence while also building and growing a wide range of new skills.

What is Adventure Therapy?

Adventure Therapy is a type of therapy that uses adventure experiences to help people grow and heal. Adventure Therapy can be used to help people overcome challenges, learn new skills, and build confidence.

Adventure Therapy is a great way to teach Dialectical Behavioral Therapy skills while having fun! Our program provides experiences where students can practice their skills. Participation in Adventure Therapy starts on the first day a student arrives and is available to all students regardless of their stage in the program.

How does Adventure Therapy work?

Adventure Therapy at Moonridge Academy is designed to help students engage in new activities, explore their interests, and build mastery in a wide range of new skills. Our program is built around the idea that the more students play, explore, and connect with nature and others, the more open they will be to making positive changes in their lives.

What are some of the benefits of Adventure Therapy?

Adventure Therapy has been shown to be an effective way to help people overcome challenges, learn new skills, and build confidence. Adventure Therapy can also be used to teach Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) skills in the moment. For students who have experienced trauma prior to enrolling at Moonridge Academy, Adventure Therapy is the perfect way to start physically processing that trauma so that they can be ready to begin talking about it.

Our therapists have seen great success with our program and believe that it is one of the most effective ways to help teens grow and develop into their favorite and best version of themselves. With Adventure Therapy, your teen will be able to process trauma in a healthy way and learn new life skills that they can take with them for the rest of their lives.

How can I get my teen involved in Adventure Therapy?

Adventure Therapy is available to all students at Moonridge Academy. Students are immediately immersed in actively experiencing new things as soon as they enroll.

Unlike most programs, a student's eligibility and invitation to participate in Adventure Therapy does not depend on their level or securing a high status in the program. It starts on the first day they arrive. Students are immediately immersed in actively experiencing new things as soon as they enroll.

At Moonridge Academy, we believe that adventure Therapy can be a powerful tool in the healing process. That's why we ensure to provide various adventure experiences for our students every week. Formally, we offer an outdoor adventure activity, service project, and school field trip every Wednesday.

Then, once a month, students go on a 3-day adventure trip designed by our Program Director. These trips often include camping, exploring, and a variety of outdoor activities. And our primary therapists are always there to participate and interact with each student, whether they're skiing, paddle boarding, volunteering, or hiking the beautiful trails of Southern Utah. We believe that Adventure Therapy can play a vital role in the healing process, and we're dedicated and determined to provide the very best experience possible for our students.
